Port Blair, Aug. 21: To celebrate the 68th birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister, Late Rajiv Gandhi the Pradesh Congress Committee organised a function on 20th Aug. 2012 at the premises of Gandhi Bhawan, Port Blair. At the outset Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, Pradesh Congress Committee garlanded the portrait of Rajiv in the presence of senior leaders, members, workers, staff, college students and supporters.
After garlanding of the portrait, Sharma administered the Sadbhavana Pledge to the gatherings. This was followed by an open to all volleyball tournament ‘Rajiv Gandhi Rolling Cup’, organized by the NSUI. In the tournament, Fisherman Colony Youth Club, Junglighat emerged as winners while the runners up position was bagged by Lee Boy Youth Club, Haddo. Shri Samir Ali was adjudged as the best player of the series.
Prizes were distributed by the PCC President to the winners of the tourney. At the end of the function, a Sadbhavana Rally was flagged off from Gandhi Bhavan which marched upto the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at Water sports complex. The rally was attended by the members of Pradesh Congress Party, Youth Congress, College students, supporters and general public.
Fruits and sweets were also distributed to the orphanage of Dairy farm, AIR Road and Prothrapur.
