Port Blair, Aug. 16: The Superintendent of Police South Andaman District, Shri SBS Tyagi, IPS has been awarded the coveted Honorable Lieutenant Governor’s Commendation Certificate on the eve of Independence Day, 2012. Shri Tyagi has won this prestigious award for rendering commendable service.

Shri S.B.S. Tyagi joined the Delhi Police as an Assistant Commissioner of Police, DANI Police Service, on 14.06.1984 and held various positions as ACP and DCP (Traffic) in Delhi Police as well as DCP Rashtrapati Bhavan.

After induction into the IPS he has been posted in the Andaman & Nicobar Police since August, 2009. All through, he has carried out an excellent job while posted as Commandant/IRBn, SP/  AP and Principal/PTS. Later, he was posted as the District SP, South Andaman where he did a commendable job in maintaining law and order, detecting and prosecuting culprits in various important cases of far reaching consequences. He has also been holding additional charges of SP (Traffic), SP (Security), SP (Police Marine Force) and FRO.

As the Chairman of the Selection Board constituted for recruitment of Police Constables and holding promotion test for the post of the Head Constable (HC), the Officer carried out a tremendous job of recruiting 133 and 373 Police Constables, the latter being the highest ever one-time recruitment of Police Constables in the most transparent manner and without any complaint of partiality, favoritism or nepotism.

The officer closely supervised the Special Investigation Team constituted for the investigation of the CBSE Question paper leakage case registered at PS Car Nicobar. This case, which left thousands of students and parents of these Islands severely traumatized, was worked out immediately and five culprits were traced out and arrested. The accused persons, being rich & highly influential, could have hampered the investigation and tampered with the evidence. The efforts of the officer ensured the expeditious trial of the accused persons in a time bound manner, restoring the faith of people in the functioning of the police in these Islands.

The Officer also supervised the case registered under the Explosive Act wherein 2,468 Gelatine Sticks, 6,000 Electronic Detonators and 10,000 Kgs of Ammonium Nitrate were seized. Twenty two accused persons have been arrested from different parts of the Islands and Tamil Nadu and the entire chain of crime was unraveled. Most of the arrested persons belong to very rich and influential sections of society but this did not deter the officer from carrying out the investigation in the most professional manner.

The Officer also effectively supervised the sensational Jarawa video footage aired on the National and International electronic media by unscrupulous elements.

The Officer also supervised the sensational case of gang rape of a 1 7 year-old minor girl in which all 15 accused involved in this heinous crime were arrested in the shortest possible time.

Shri SBS Tyagi had earlier been awarded with the President Police Medal for distinguished service on the occasion Republic Day, 2012.
