Port Blair, Sept. 24: Agriculture Education Day was celebrated at Garacharma Research Complex of CARI under the theme "Role of Knowledge based Agriculture for the Livelihood Security of the Island" .

Speaking on the occasion the Chief guest Dr.S.Dam Roy, Director, CARI remembered the contribution made by the Scientist Dr. Norman Borlaug, Dr.M.S.Swaminathan, Dr. V. Kurien and others who had brought  revolution in the field of Agriculture in our country. He further stressed that technologies should be made  suitable to the farmer based on their land holdings like  Mushroom cultivation, Poultry farming, Fresh water aquaculture, Integrated Farming System and others  which can provide  livelihood to the stakeholders. He exhorted the extension Scientist to play a pivotal role in transferring  the knowledge on the technologies generated by the scientist for the benefit of the Island farmers. He concluded his speech by saying that "CARI can be used as Knowledge Hub" by the   farmers, youths, NGOs and other stake holders for getting information on agriculture and allied fields which will further the development of agriculture in the Island.

A total of eight deliberations  were made during this occasion by the scientists  and other  staff of CARI and a youth from Car Nicobar. At the outset Dr.S.K.Zamir Ahmed, Sr. Scientist welcomed the august gathering and Smt. Sulochna, Assistant Director (Official Language) proposed the vote of thanks.
