Port Blair, Sept. 14: The Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has expressed its anguish and concern over the decision of the central government to increase the diesel price by 5 rupees per litre and to reduce the subsidized LPG cylinder to six.

This decision of the government will have a cascading effect on the price rise, the Association said.

Prices of all the items especially food items will increase.  Besides, it will be nightmare for the lower middle and poor strata of the society including the lower category of government employees and workers who are already reeling under the uncontrolled price rise caused by wrong policies of the successive central government. Limiting the subsidized LPG cylinder to six in an year will upset the monthly budget of the above categories of people.

The Association has demanded the central government to roll back the decision to hike the diesel price and to limit the subsidized LPG cylinders. The Association along with other trade unions in the islands will conduct a series of agitation on the above issue in the coming days.
