Port Blair, Sept. 13: Concerned over growing number of Breast Cancer cases in the islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President PCC has written a letter to the Lt Governor and appraised him that in A&N Islands many days and weeks are observed viz World Environment day, International Women’s day, Hindi Day etc but Breast cancer awareness month, which is being observed by the World Health Organisation is not observed.

Sharma expressing his concern about the health, has thus requested the LG to dedicate the whole October month as Breast cancer awareness month to spread awareness about the disease.

Sharma has stated that , as per the specialities reports, western lifestyle, increased consumption of fat products, obesity, late marriages, delayed child bearing and less number of children being conceived leading to reduced breastfeeding are all believed to be behind this increased risk of breast cancer and our Islands are also marching ahead to modernisation.

In a meeting today at Gandhi Bhawan with the trained nurses, Sharma said that during October month, he is going to arrange various camps on Breast Cancer Awareness in rural areas of South Andaman and requested the services of a group of six to seven nurses for the purpose .
