Port Blair, Sept. 5: The President, PCC Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma along with a delegate of general public of Mannarghat village met with the Superintending Engineer, APWD Mr Er. Newazesh Ali and briefed him about the scarcity of drinking water at Mannarghat.

Sharma stated that though there is cemented water tank having a capacity of 2000 ltrs  in the Padauk Bagicha but for reasons not known to the public, it is not in operation. He therefore suggested that arrangements be made for pouring water in the tanks at least thrice in a week to solve the crisis.  

The PCC President also suggested to operationalize Right Meo Nallah, Koyla Nallah, Mannarghat and Jhinga Nallah, Jirkatang. He stated that Koyla Nallah project can be further enhanced as Tidal Water Project for the benefit of the local inhabitants.

Sharma also appraised the SE about water source at Nimbu Bagicha, North Bay which should be considered as operational water reservoir. He therefore requested to the SE to expedite renovation of Mannarghat Comsonat Nallah Dam at the earliest, which will be of much use for solving the water crisis in South Andaman.
