Port Blair, July 6: The South Andaman Police has arrested two persons namely Narayan Roy @Sujoy, R/o Garacharma and Surojit Das, R/o Garacharma who were involved in poaching sea turtle. Sujoy is a habitual poacher who has atleast 9 cases against him in PS Ograbraj and PS Kadamtala for entering the Jarawa Tribal Reserve, poaching and exploitation of the tribe. He was also booked under preventive action thrice for his suspected involvement in criminal activities.  It is seen that the habitual poacher somehow manages bail in such cases and within no time is back to his business.  

On 4th July 2017, on a tip off about smuggling of Sea Turtle (an endangered Wild Life species), team of Police personnel from PS Pahargaon led by SI Jeevan immediately swung into action and mounted surveillance of suspected place. Soon two suspects were noticed carrying a heavy carry bag. The suspects were detained and the carry bag was searched in which a freshly killed Sea Turtle was found. The 2.15 Kgs sea turtle was seized on the spot and the accused were detained.

The detained accused and seized property were later handed over to Range Officer (Wild Life) for further action against the accused persons.

The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Insp. Sahil Shamsuddin, SHO Pahargaon and DySP (South Andaman).

South Andaman Police has worked tirelessly in cracking these cases and put tremendous & skilled efforts in their assigned duties.
