Port Blair, Sept. 19: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has demanded early release of pension for the new cases of old age, widow, specially-abled and destitute people.

On Friday the Member of Parliament met the Director of Social Welfare Department and mentioned that nearly 700 old age, widow, specially-abled and destitute people who are eligible for monthly pension under various schemes of Government of India, have already applied for the same, in Social Welfare Department.

Sharma mentioned that some of the people under this category belong from extremely poor backgrounds and are in urgent need of financial support. There are many who urgently need financial support for various reasons and release of pension will be a huge support for them.

Considering the adverse social and economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic, the Member of Parliament demanded early release of pension for these new cases of old age, widow, specially-abled and destitute people.

The Director of Social Welfare Department assured the Member of Parliament that the pension for all new cases will be released soon.
