08 Myanmar Poachers Apprehended, Intensive Combing Operation on for Remaining Poachers

Katchal, Dec. 31: In a swift and effective response to credible information received from local fishermen on 27/12/2023, an anti-poaching team, led by Sub-Inspector Subramani, SHO PS Katchal, conducted a successful operation at the West Bay area of Katchal Island.

The operation, which took place on the 28/12/2023, comprised of officers and personnel from Police Station Katchal, including HC Nitish Kumar and Buchendra Rao, PC Niraj Mondal, Sabraj Mohammed, Vinay Kumar Pandey, Sankar S. Aind, CT’s Mahadev Uraon, Sandeep Kumar. Police team reached the West Bay area on foot and meticulously searched potential hideouts. The team observed suspicious movement within the jungle and promptly surrounded the area. When asked to surrender, the suspected foreign poachers attempted to flee.

The anti-poaching team pursued and had successfully apprehended 06 Myanmares poachers so far, who were identified and taken into custody after extensive combing operation under supervision of Shri Manjeet Sheoran, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District. The army team of Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) later on also joined the combing operation. Today, again local Police was successful in apprehending two more poachers, thereby leading to apprehension of 08 (eight) poachers, so far.

The hunt for remaining poachers is underway by a joint anti-poaching operation involving ANC team and the local police. 

General public especially local fishermen are requested to pass on any credible information about presence of foreign/suspected persons to local police for immediate check of their credentials/apprehension. The successful collaboration between the local police and civilian reflects a commitment to combat illegal activities in the region and preserve the ecological balance of emerald islands.
