Port Blair, Jan. 1: Celebrating the joyous festival of New Year, the SHG Mela organised by Andaman and Nicobar Rural Livelihood Mission attached to Directorate of RD, PRIs and ULBs, A&N Administration continued on 1st January 2024 as ‘New Year SHG Mela’ catching the attention of the local populace and tourists of Port Blair. The stalls were seen over crowded with people and the SHGs have received overwhelming response from the public.

As per the suggestions of the Secretary (RD), Smt. Veditha Reddy, IAS, Mehandi and Tatoo Stalls were kept for the New Year SHG Mela which received good response from the public. The kids enjoyed the play zone while the general public enjoyed the delicious food items made by SHG members.

People of all ages celebrated and welcomed the New Year 2024 with enthusiasm by participating in the SHG Mela. On the other hand, the SHG members celebrated their New Year with happy sale of their products and eatables to the public.

The SHG members have expressed their gratitude to the Administration and the RD Department and requested to organise such Mela for them during the Island Tourism Festival. They have also demanded to organise such Melas on frequent basis.

The Department has assured to organise such Melas on regular basis in the upcoming months in order to provide market to the SHGs of DAY-NRLM and that of other collaborating institutions.
