Port Blair, Jan 18: Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and President Forest Labour Union, Chatham Mill Division paid a visit to the Government Saw Mill Chatham today. The Office Bearers and members of the Forest Labour Union, Chatham Mill Division affiliated to INTUC gave warm welcome to the MP at the main gate. Shri. S. Balakrishnan Vice President of the Union felicitated the MP by adorning shawl for receiving Sansad Ratna award for the third consecutive year. Shri T. Purushotham, the elected member of the Works Committee of Mill Division Chatham of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) joined the Forest Labour Union, Chatham by taking membership in presence of the MP. By this strength of elected members of the Forest Labour Union in the Works Committee has increased to 8 (eight) out of a total strength of 10 (ten).

Thereafter, the MP discussed with the union members and workers of the Mill Division, Chatham about their grievances and issues in detail. Thereafter the Hon’ble MP had a meeting with the Deputy Conservator of Forests, Mill Division, Chatham Shri Suraj Singh, IFS alongwith the Office Bearers and Works Committee members of the Forest Labour Union. The following issues were discussed with the DCF (MD).

1) To expedite construction of RCC canteen building meant for providing dining facility to the workers. Inordinate delay in completion of the construction of the Canteen building, the workers are facing difficulties as the Welfare Center are being for dinning purpose.

2) Repair and maintenance of the rest room for the women workers

3) Timely disposal of the cases of GPF advances and withdrawals, LTC claims and medical reimbursement cases of the employees and taking action to remove the bottlenecks in process.

4) Filling up of the vacant promotional posts of the Mill Division for which promotions are to be made from amongst feeder category posts as per the provisions of the existing RRs.

5) Amendment to the RRs for posts in the higher hierarchy which has been made as direct recruitment posts.

6) Posting of regular Forest Ranger in the Yard section for unhindered sale of sawn timber from the Saw Mill.

7) To hand over the petty shop to the Works Committee of Mill Division Chatham.

8) To deploy designated employees (Safai Karmachari) or outsource the work of sanitation and sweeping of the premises of Chatham, Saw Mill.

9) To develop and provide parking place/space to park the vehicles of employees of Mill Division Chatham while on duty.

Shri. Gyan Prakash Krishna, Shri. K.P. Aboobacker, General Secretaries of INTUC, Shri John Robert Babu, District President, South Andaman (INC), Shri S. Balakraishnan, Shri T. Mohana Rao, Shri C. Vekata Ramana, Shri Pottaiah and Shri P. Mohameed Office Bearers and Works Committee members of Forest Labour Union Chatham also attended the meeting presenting the grievances of the workers. The Deputy Conservator of Forest, Chatham Saw Mill gave patient hearing of grievances and issues put forth before him and assured the Hon’ble MP and his team to look into the above grievances and resolve as soon as possible.
