Port Blair, March 22: On March 22, 2024, the proactive team of PS Mayabunder took swift action based on credible information regarding the illegal sale of venison meat at a residence in Webi village, Mayabunder. A raiding team, led by SI Dinesh Meena, SI (IRBn) Neethi J Vetriarsan, PCs B. Dilleshwar Rao, K Balraju, and S.Tamil Selvi, was formed immediately.

The team conducted a raid at the premises of Ms. Sumanti Toppo, w/o Thomas Uraon, in Webi, Mayabunder. During the search, illegal wildlife products were discovered on the backyards, including 3 kgs of dry meat (likely venison), 1 deer head, 12 packets of venison meat weighing approximately 11.5 kgs and 1 Nos. Air gun.

Ms. Sumanti Toppo confessed to possessing the venison meat during interrogation. From the prima facie, it is a clear violation of Section 50 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, and subsequently all items were seized by Insp. P.K Abdul Arif, SHO PS Mayabunder.

The accused was apprehended, and the seizure was promptly reported to the Range Officer Mayabunder. Subsequently, both the confiscated items and the apprehended individual were handed over to forest officials for further action.

The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Shri Brij Mohan Meena, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur and overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
