Port Blair, April 8: In view of the General Elections to Lok Sabha-2024, the Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands, Shri B.S. Jaglan, IAS, alongwith State Police Nodal Officer, Ms. Monika Bhardwaj, IPS, inspected some checkpoints in South Andaman District yesterday to ensure that the Flying Squad Team (FST), Static Surveillance Team (SST) alongwith Police teams are actively working at checkpoints.

The FST, SST and Police team have been asked to intensify frisking/screening of vehicles both public and private, so that nobody uses any unfair practices to woo the voters and to ensure that free, fair and transparent elections are conducted in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency.

The CEO directed the teams to take special care and humane approach while checking vehicles carrying aged persons, women carrying children and cases with medical emergency.

The CEO further urged to check the MCC violation as per the guidelines issued by ECI, especially the movement of cash, drugs, liquor, freebies etc. to lure the voters and directed for their immediate seizure without any hesitation. He also directed teams to ensure no harassment to public is caused during checking. He further directed that people carrying legal cash should also not be harassed.

He also requested the general public to cooperate with the teams and advised them to use the cVIGIL mobile App to report any violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during elections.
