Port Blair, April 30: The Armed Police Unit is pleased to announce the successful completion of its pioneer De-addiction and Rehabilitation Camp tailored specifically for the Police personnel. This crucial initiative, held on 30/04/2024 at Police Line focused on providing comprehensive support and recovery services to officers struggling with addiction.

Recognising the unique pressures faced by law enforcement personnel, the camp offered a confidential and supportive environment where officers could access professional help and begin their journey towards recovery. The program included lecture by medical professionals, individual counselling, group therapy, and workshops on coping mechanisms and stress management.

Ms. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police (APU), emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “We must address the health challenges within our force with the same urgency and care that we respond to public emergencies. Supporting our officers through their recovery not only aids their personal health but also enhances the overall effectiveness and integrity of our police force.”

Dr. Pooja Govind, Senior Resident, Department of Psychiatry, GB Pant Hospital, ANIIMS, Ms. Hemlatha, Psychologist and Ms. Shabnam, Social worker spoke on the topic mental health, effects of alcohol and psychotropic substances on health, society and profession life of Police personnel.

The response from participants has been profoundly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the life-changing support and understanding they received. This annual camp is part of the department’s broader Health and Wellness Initiative aimed at addressing various challenges that affect law enforcement officers today.

Devesh Chandra Srivatsava, DGP, ANI, and under the supervision of Ms. Sindhu Pillai A, IPS, IGP, ANI and Ms. Monika Bharadwaj, DIGP (APU), the event underscore A&N Police's unwavering commitment towards promoting health initiatives and ensuring the well-being of our Police personnel.
