Port Blair, May 1: Following with the directions of Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, under the supervision of Shri. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration and Shri. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, DGP, ANI, the Police Training School, Prothrapur of Andaman & Nicobar Police is hosting a transformative two-day course on New Criminal Laws from 1st May to 2nd May 2024. This initiative aims to empower officials from various crucial stakeholder like judiciary, prosecution, law department, prison and others within the justice system.

This course will provide an in-depth overview of the New Criminal Laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) – 2023. These laws, slated to take effect from July 1st, 2024, mark a significant advancement in our legal landscape.

Today’s inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Hon’ble District & Sessions Judge, Shri. Sudhir Kumar, Shri. Bhawani Shankar Sharma, Registrar, Calcutta High Court Circuit Bench at Port Blair, Smti. Monika Bhardwaj, IPS, DIGP (Training), Ms. Arkabrati Neogi, Ld. Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shri. Anupam Kumar Sircar, Ld. Judicial Magistrate and Shri. Manjeet Sheoran, IPS, Principal (PTS).

This collaborative endeavour aims to equip officials from Judiciary, Prosecution, Law Department, Prison and other department with a profound understanding of the evolving legal framework. By fostering knowledge and expertise, this course aims to enhance the effectiveness, collaboration and efficiency of our Criminal Justice System, ultimately contributing to a fairer and more equitable society.

The course curriculum will cover a wide array of topics like understanding the intricacies of new criminal laws, application of legal principles in practical scenarios, strategies for effective prosecution and defense, ensuring citizen safety and rights within the legal framework, role of stakeholders in upholding justice and security, through the physical/online talks by domain experts and legal luminaries.
