Port Blair, May 1: The three New Criminal Laws are set to roll out on 1st July, 2024 ushering in an era of modernized, reformed criminal jurisprudence.

Andaman & Nicobar Police proudly announces the launch of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Chatbot called “Naye Kanoon Mitra” on April 30, 2024 (Tuesday) by the DGP Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS in presence of IGP Smti Sindhu Pillai A., IPS; Shri Ajay Krishan Sharma, IPS; DIG Smti Monika Bhardwaj, IPS and other senior officers of Andaman & Nicobar Police. The chatbot has been created for the ease of understanding and referring to the three New Laws viz. Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

The adoption of this AI Chatbot is an effort to harness the potential of Artificial Intelligence in delivering efficient and accessible services to the public. The Chatbot developed by SP South Andaman Smti Niharika Bhatt, IPS and ASP South Andaman Shri Vikas Swami, IPS will serve as a virtual assistant, offering assistance on the principles and guidelines, outlined in the newly enacted laws. The chatbot “Naye Kanoon Mitr” is made accessible through two ways - a weblink and QR-code.

This is the 3rd chatbot launched by Andaman & Nicobar Police in its endeavor to make service delivery and legal knowledge more accessible with adoption of latest technology. The first chatbot “Election Mitra”, launched on 02/04/2024 is focussed on providing authentic information provided by various manuals of ECI in a user friendly and interactive manner. The second chatbot “Cyber Saarthi” launched on 09/04/2024, is aimed at transforming the way in which information related to cybercrime is made accessible to the public. This chatbot answers the many questions that people may have regarding cybercrimes. Both the chatbots are accessible through widely advertised and circulated QR -  codes.

Pertinently, Andaman & Nicobar Police in its endeavor to create awareness of the three new Criminal Laws has undertaken a wide Union Territory wide campaign in the last 4 months. All the three districts - South Andaman, North & Middle Andaman and Nicobar district have shown keen interest in spreading awareness of the New Criminal Laws in the far-flung regions of the Islands. More than 30 large hoardings are displayed at prominent places; standees & banners are displayed at places frequented by tourists and local population and more than 3000 pamphlets have been distributed among the general public for creating awareness.

All police personnel are being given extensive training to ensure smooth and seamless transition to the new laws. The aim is to give multiple training sessions to all the staff of A&N Police in the coming months and cover all the personnel of the police department before the 1st July deadline. The training is being given in collaboration with various institutions of national repute such National Forensic Science University, Gujarat; National Law University, Bangalore; Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) and Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI), Kolkata.
