Port Blair, May 1: The Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to install 5 MW Electric Power Capacity DG Set at Sitanagar, Diglipur Power House.

In a letter addressed to the Lieutenant Governor, the Member of Parliament mentioned that the Kalpong Hydro Electric Power Project, which serves as the primary source of electricity for the region, faces significant challenges during the dry season (February to July) due to low water levels. This results in an insufficient supply of electricity to meet the needs of the local community, leading to frequent power outages and damage to electronic equipment.

In light of these pressing circumstances, the Member of Parliament requested the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor to install a new 5 MW capacity DG set at the Diglipur Power House in Sitanagar.

“This initiative is crucial to ensure that the residents of Diglipur have access to a reliable and sufficient electricity supply throughout the year, particularly during periods of low water levels at the Kalpong Hydro Electric Power Project,” he mentioned.

The Member of Parliament mentioned that the installation of this DG set will solve the need to borrow electricity from the Rangat Zone and will significantly contribute to the overall development and prosperity of the Diglipur area. It will support economic activities, enhance living standards, and foster a conducive environment for growth and progress.
