Port Blair, Nov. 14: The 63rd All India Cooperative Week Celebration - 2016 commenced with the inauguration of a function by Shri. Ramesh Verma, IAS, Secretary (Cooperation)-cum-RCS, A & N Administration today at A&N State Coop. Union premises, Taylerabad. The programme was also attended by Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, A & N State Cooperative Union, Board of Directors, Officials of Cooperative Department, Representatives of various Apex level Cooperative Institutions, Senior Cooperators, Media persons, SHG members and a large gathering of people.

The programme began with bouquet presentation followed by lamp lighting and welcome song by the students of Cooperative Union.

Addressing the gathering Kuldeep informed all that All India Cooperative Week is a weeklong programme for 7 days at different places on different topics to promote the message of Cooperative movement across the Island. He further appraised that the main problem in A&N Islands is Unemployment. He further appraised that due to the efforts of Cooperative Union and Cooperative Department, Construction Cooperative Societies were given works in Panchayati Raj Institutions. He emphasized that the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) should also consider Cooperative Societies for Construction works. He also opined that there is tremendous scope for formation of new societies in Tourism, Fisheries, IT Sectors, etc. He urged all the Cooperators to work together for a better society and thanked Cooperative Dept, NCUI, societies and NABARD in extending their support in organizing this programme.

Ms. Sangita Nair presented a brief note on empowering of cooperative through education and training.

Shri. Ramesh Verma, IAS, Secretary (Coop)-cum-RCS distributed certificates to more than 100 participants, who have completed training in Tailoring & Fashion Designing, Beautician and Computer Courses for 6 months and 1 year time duration.

The Chief Guest, Shri. Ramesh Verma, IAS, Secretary (Coop)-cum-RCS, A & N Administration in his key note address informed that All India 63rd Cooperative Week 2016 is like a birthday week for the Cooperatives. He further appraised that Education is very vital which leads to employment and hence empowerment. He informed that it is very difficult to provide Govt. Job for everyone and hence people should come up to initiate small works to support their family and society like Mehandi works, Tailoring work, fashion designing and various other small works to improve their social and economic conditions.

He appreciated the initiative of A&NSCU in organizing various courses at the remote location of the Island and added that in the next two years Optical Fiber Undersea cable will be completed in the island which will create great scope for employment generation. He also requested the people present on the occasion to participate in the new sector where cooperative may play vital role like tourism, fisheries, dairy, transport, travels etc.
