Car Nicobar, June 14: Acute shortage of petrol has hit the lives of people hard in Car Nicobar.  The only Petrol Pump in Kinyuka village seems to be helpless, as no consignment of petrol has arrived for the last many days.

There was long queue seen at the pump when the petrol was distributed last time but the stock was declared exhausted after few hours of distribution. At the time the concerned officials informed that the stock delivered was much less than the ordered quantity.

There are more than 3200 vehicles including the bikes and cars. Villages are scattered and people mainly depend on their own vehicle to travel as the frequency of the bus trips to different villages are limited.

An entrepreneur from Malacca Village Shri. Rufas told our reporter that the Petrol Supply to this Pump has always been less than the demand. The Tribal Council had even placed a demand before the visiting Parliamentary Committee headed by Smti. Sumitra Mahajan, few months ago to increase the capacity of the pump to meet the demand. Smti. Mahajan had assured that she would ask the Administration to solve this issue, but nothing has happened, Rufas said.

Meanwhile the Assistant Commissioner Shri. Akhil Kumar and the Block Development Officer Shri. Raj Mohan visited the pump today and asked the MD of EHL Wilson Amos, the reason for the crisis. Wilson is said to have assured that the scarcity will end soon, as the new consignment is expected in few days.
