Self Employment Could Be the Best To Provide Sustainable Employment Opportunities: Onit Panyang

Port Blair, June 19: To create a wider awareness among the rural populace about the self employment programme, two more awareness campaign-cum-people’s education programmes on PMEGP and other Govt. sponsored self employment schemes were organized by the A&N Islands Khadi & Village Industries Board at the Gram Panchayat, Long Island on 18th June 2013 at 1000 hrs and at the Zilla Parishad auditorium, Rangat on the same day at 1600 hrs. Both the programmes were organized in association with the Directorate of Industries, Banks, PRIs and other likeminded agencies with a view to cater the demand of the unemployed / under employed youths towards establishment of micro enterprises for their future livelihood support.

Altogether 52 beneficiaries at Long Island and 47 beneficiaries at Rangat attended the programme. Shri Onit Panyang, IAS, Secretary (Ind.) & Chairman, A&NI KVIB was the chief guest on both the occasions whereas Shri B. Kamaraju, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Long Island, Shri P. Prasad, Zilla Parishad Member and Adhir Mattubar, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Rangat were the special guests at their respective places.

In his key note address, Shri Onit Panyang, IAS, Secretary (Ind.) & Chairman, A&NI KVIB viewed that the self employment could be the best option for providing sustainable employment opportunities to the unemployed youths subject to the conditions that they should opt for such activities which have good scope and market potentiality for development at the concerned area. He also appealed the banking institutions to help the programme implementing agencies in identification of suitable entrepreneurs apart from their core duties of financing viable projects.  The Chief Guest also emphasized the need for frequent collaborative efforts from the programme implementing agencies, PRIs and Banks to bring more number of unemployed / under employed youths under the fold of self employment venture.

The people of Long Island and Rangat also pointed certain concern / hindrances which they are facing regularly under different sectors for running their venture successfully. To this the Secretary (Ind.) assured that he would bring these issues to the notice of the senior officers of all concerned departments for an amicable solution in the matter.

During their address, Shri B.Kamaraju, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Long Island, Shri P.Prasad, Zilla Parishad Member and Adhir Mattubar, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Rangat appreciated the efforts taken by the A&NI KVIB for arranging such programmes at their respective places and advised the participants to make best use of the same.    

Earlier, Shri A. Sinha Roy, Executive Officer, A&NI KVIB explained the reason behind organization of such programme at different islands and the role of various developmental agencies towards minimization of the prevailing unemployment problem through establishment of economic activities by individual entrepreneurs / Self Help Groups.

The representatives of Agriculture, fisheries and AH&VS also explained their schemes during the programme held at Long Island and Rangat. During the programme, loan application forms were also issued to the 05 interested beneficiaries at Long Island and 10 beneficiaries at Rangat.

Both the programmes were started with a welcome address by Smti Sunita Kumari, Industries Promotion Officer, ITC, Bakultala and ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Smti Meera Singh, Supervisor, KVIB.
