Port Blair, June 19: The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has written a letter to the Governor of Jharkhand to allot some seats in MBBS and Engineering courses in the University and colleges for the students of the Chotanagpur Community of A&N Islands.

In his letter to the Governor, Sharma wrote that due to non availability of Medical and Engineering Colleges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, highly talented and meritorious students are depending on the quotas of MBBS and Engineering seats in different Universities and Colleges in mainland considered by the Central and State Government to the A&N Administration. Out of that quota the A&N Administration allots seats to the deserving students of these islands. Sharma said that consideration of the Jharkhand Government will go a long way for the development of the Chotanagpur Community settled in the islands.

The PCC President has also brought to the kind notice of the Governor that various State Governments like Kerala, Tamil Nadu etc. are considering such quotas for the students of the origins of their respective States, settled in Andaman and Nicobar groups of islands. Sharma has also informed him that in these islands, a large number of Chotanapur origins are settled in these islands but due to various reasons, students of this Community are not capable enough to compete with the students of other categories and their utmost desire to serve the Islands as Doctors and Engineers goes in vain.

Batting for the bright future of the students belonging to Chotanagpuri Origin, settled in these islands, Sharma requested the Governor to consider yearly quota of few seats in MBBS and Engineering to the Andaman and Nicobar Administration for this particular community.
