Port Blair, June 20: A delegation of ex-servicemen settlers from Campbell Bay met the Lt Governor, A&N Islands today at Raj Niwas and informed him that when the prospective students from Campbell Bay went to Chandigarh they found that the reservation under Tsunami victim quota had been removed from the prospectus and thus they will not be given the MBBS and BDS seats. These seats were earmarked by the Government of Punjab under the Tsunami victim quota after the devastating tsunami struck the Islands on 26th December 2004.

The Lt Governor has accordingly written a detailed letter to Shri Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, Punjab for restoration of the MBBS and BDS seats for a period of at least two years by which time the Medical College in the Islands is likely to be set up. The Lt Governor has sought immediate intervention of the Chief Minister for a direction to the State Health Department to restore the seats for the benefit of the students of the remote Islands.
