Port Blair, July 22: In what can be termed as a milestone in community policing initiative, the A&N Police organized a function at PS Pahargaon on Saturday evening (20/07/13) to felicitate the members of public who cooperated with the police teams in apprehending three Myanmarese prisoners who had escaped from the District Jail. 15 persons were given Commendation from the Director General of Police (i/c) along with cash rewards. The citizens are Smt Maimuna, Anita Bara, Shri Ummer, Suresh, Bhujavan Lall, Kasim, Johnson, Ibrahim, R. Parmashivam, D. Zainuddin, G. Uday Kumar, Obed Kindo, Francis Xavier, Murugeshan and Sujeeth all residents of Kodiyaghat and Burmanallah.

Speaking on the occasion, the DGP (i/c) Shri Balaji Srivastava, IPS lauded the efforts of the residents of Kodiyaghat and Burmanallah area for their whole-hearted support and timely dissemination of information to Police. Describing this as a landmark in community policing, he requested them to be an integral part of law enforcement, crime prevention and coastal security initiatives of the A&N Police. 

The function was followed by an Iftaar. The District SP Chinmoy Biswal, IPS, DySP (SA) N. Rasheed, DySP (B/Flat) Gurmeet Singh, SHO PS CCS, Insp. R.K. Sharma, SHO PS Aberdeen Insp. D.J. Rao, SHO PS Pahargaon SI P.K. Abdul Arif were also present on the occasion, which was attended by the police teams including recruit trainees of PTS who had taken part in the operation.
