Under the influence of moderate to strong South West Monsoon current, strong South westerly wind speed exceeding 45 Kmph and generally rough seas likely along and off Andaman & Nicobar coast. Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea. Port Blair, May 27: The Lt Governor being on official tour to New Delhi would not be present for Tuesday’s public hearing on 28 May and June 4, 2013. Persons desirous to present their grievances can, however, submit the same to the Secretary to Lt Governor in Raj Niwas from 11.00 AM to 12.30 PM on these days.

Port Blair, May 27: The President PCC Kuldeep Rai Sharma and all leaders of the Party deeply mourn the sad demises of Shri GL Sharma, Former General Manager, ATI, 84 years and Shri Narender Lall Shah retired Executive Engineer, APWD, 69 years who have left for heavenly abode on 24th and 26th May, 2013 respectively.

Port Blair, May 24: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, has sanctioned one lakh rupees as ex-gratia relief from LG’s Relief Fund to the parents of 11 years old boy Anuz Dung Dung, S/o Shri Francis Jebiba, R/o Mananarghat, who died when a tree fell on him.  The tragic incident happened on 21st May 2013, when a massive tree near his residence fell on the tin roof of his house resulting in serious injuries to Anuz Dung Dung, who was immediately rushed to Wimberlygunj PHC and later referred to G. B. Pant hospital for special medical attention. The boy, however, succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

Port Blair, May 24: The Term End Examination for June, 2013 of Indira Gandhi National Open University is going to commence from 1st June. Students are advised to be in possession of the Hall Ticket & Identity Card issued by the University during the Examination and they should not carry mobile phone with them inside the Examination Hall. Students will not be allowed to appear in the exams without their ID Card. Students are advised to contact the Regional Centre or Concerned Study Centre one week before the commencement of examination for any queries/discrepancies regarding ID Card/Hall Ticket or any other examination related information. The IGNOU Regional Centre Port Blair shall remain open in June 2013 during working hours on all days except Sundays and Public holidays to assist and guide examinees. Learners should keep themselves updated about examinations on IGNOU website. A communication from IGNOU Regional Centre said.

Port Blair, May 24: Summer Camp with a theme ‘SUN TIME-FUN TIME’ was organised for the children of Birchgunj Military Station under the aegis of Family Welfare Centre, Army Birchgunj from 13th May to 21st May 2013.  The camp was attended by 45 children and it provided an opportunity and a platform for them to utilize their energies and enhance their creative skills thereby improving their personalities. Children were also sensitized about environmental issues and how they could contribute towards its conservation.

A workshop was conducted for making useful items from waste products at home, T-shirt painting, gift wrapping, greeting cards etc.  A colorful cultural programme was presented by the children followed by a party which was highly appreciated by everyone present.

On the occasion Mrs Shalini Thakur President, Army Wives Welfare Association gave away prizes to the children for their outstanding performances during the creative workshop.

Port Blair, May 23: Jolly Buoy Island in Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park (MGMNP), Wandoor shall remain closed for the tourism activities w.e.f 16/05/13 to 31/10/13 consequent upon end of fair weather season as intimated vide Ministry of Shipping, M.M.D letter No.PB/2(216)/2008-III/564 dated 15/10/2009. However, the Red Skin Island in MGMNP shall remain open for the tourism activities during the above said period subject to weather conditions and other guidelines issued from time to time.
