It is brought to the notice of general public and government departments that the repairing of HDPE pipeline of 20 MW IPP Power House, Bambooflat will be carried out on 04.05.2013. Due to this, one hour rotational load shedding will be carried out in Port Blair and South Andaman area on 04.05.2013 from 0830 hours to 1430 hours, if required.

 

Port Blair, May 3: The PCC President, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma in his letter to the Secretary Port Blair Municipal Council has said that apart from the works on sanitation, road repairing, garbage clearance etc, PBMC is also to be involved in some social works and one of the most required social needs is entertainment.

 

People of Port Blair are leading monotonous life due to non availability of proper entertainment, said Sharma requesting the Secretary PBMC to consider two regular feature film shows at Dr BR Ambedkar Auditorium on every Saturdays and Sundays. He hoped that as a welfare measure the proposal will get a positive consideration.

 

Port Blair, March 26: The President, INTUC, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma through a letter to the Divisional Forest Officer, Nicobar Division, Campbell Bay has demanded that Uniform articles to Carpenters, Asst Carpenters, Mason, Asst Mason and other such categories of industrial employees working in Nicobar forest Division who were not issued such articles since 2005 be issued at the earliest. Sharma has also demanded for reimbursement of actual TA/DA for the mazdoors on daily wages who have crossed 240 days of continuous services and  deployed for govt. works beyond 8 KM of their head quarter camp.

He has stated that such employees are not getting TA/DA from the department for the journeys performed to attend Govt works beyond 8 Km from their head quarters. Sharma has also demanded to allow departmental conveyance to the place of works, which are connected with road and beyond 8 Km from Head quarters. He also demanded for an immediate repair of type I and type II quarters, which are in dilapidated condition and a CC footpath from the main approach to the residential accommodations allotted to KP Mohammed, Haneefa and P Selvam, regular mazdoors.

Port Blair, March 25: An incident of firing has taken place on Saturday evening (23rd March) in a Police Line quarter in which the son of an ASI apparently shot himself with the service revolver of his father when the family members were away. When his father and cousins returned home and found the house bolted from inside, they opened the door through a window and found the 22-year old Satnam Singh lying injured on the floor, with the revolver on his side. He was immediately evacuated in a PCR Ambulance to GB Pant Hospital where he later succumbed to injuries.

Police and Forensic Science teams inspected the spot immediately and completed necessary forensic procedures, including seizure of the revolver, some blood stained clothes etc. from the spot. Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicidal firing.

Inquest has been conducted by an Executive Magistrate and post mortem examination of the deceased has been done at GB Pant Hospital on Sunday (24th March). A case has been registered at PS Aberdeen in this regard and investigation is in progress. 

Port Blair, March 25: Shri K Venkatesan, Assistant Professor & HOD, Department of Home Science called upon the former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Shri K Venkatesan is pursuing his research on PURA. (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas). In this connection Dr Kalam advised him to go further in the field of capacity building of the people alongwith other connectivity of PURA.

The Former President recalled his visit to Andaman and also emphasized the need for PURA in Andaman. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam has congratulated Venkatesan for his relentless and yeomen service being rendered to the Island people. This is his second meeting with Dr Kalam. Dr. Kalam has conveyed his best wishes to the teachers and students of JNRM as “Knowledge makes you great”.

As per the request of Venkatesan, Dr Kalam presented his book entitled “Indomitable Spirit” to the library of JNRM. Dr Iqbal Ahmad, Principal, JNRM congratulated the HOD Shri K Venkatesan for this achievement.

Port Blair, March 25: The 33rd Annual Athletic Meet of Govt. Sec. School, Manpur, South Andaman was held in the School’s Play Ground in a befitting manner today on 22nd March 2013. Shri Mohd. Shafique, Pramukh, Panchayat Samity, Ferrargunj, South Andaman was the Chief Guest. The chief guest hoisted the meet flag and declared the meet open while Shri Mohan Halder, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Tushnabad , Shri Anand Amrit Raj, Member Zilla Parishad and Shri Ranjit Kumar Banerjee, Member Panchayat Samity, Ferrargunj were the guest of honour of the inaugural ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion Mohd Safique, Pramukh expressed that the games & sports not only help in physical and mental development but also earns name ,fame & opens an opportunity for livelihood. He Cited the example of Kumari Deborah who bagged three Medals in 33rd Hero Asian Cycling Championship. He expressed his happiness that even after the Annual Examination the teachers are busy in result preparation and few days remaining for closing of school for Summer Vacation, the school has organised the Annual Athletic Meet.

Shri Anand Amrit Raj, Member Zilla Parishad asked the students to participate in true spirit of sportsmanship & friendly environment, he also assured the students to work for the betterment of the existing facilities in the school. Shri Ranjit Kumar Banerjee Panchayat Samity Member asked all the students to participate in the sports events, the winning and losing will depend on the performance. In the Inaugural Ceremony the students gave guard of honour and presented mass PT. In the closing ceremony, Shri P. Mary Joseph, Deputy Education Officer, Wimberly Gunj, South Andaman was the Chief Guest who declared the meet closed.

Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the enthusiasm and spirit of the students and teachers of the school in organising the event. Shri Udai Bhanu Singh, Assistant Engineer, APWD, Shri Mahadev Majhi, SMC Chair Person & Mohd. Irshad, Assistant Director Sports (Phy. Edn.) were the Guest of Honour of the Closing Ceremony. The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by the Headmaster.

Port Blair, March 25: A 500-Ton Oil Barge,  ‘Mridula’ was inducted in NSRY on 21st Mar 2013 by Rear Admiral Sudhir Pillai, NM, Chief of Staff, Andaman & Nicobar Command at Naval Ship Repair Yard, Port Blair. The vessel conforms to latest regulations on marine pollution and has state-of-the-art machinery for effective and safe transfer of fuel to warships and Floating Dock Navy-1. The vessel is expected to facilitate faster turn-around of Ships at Port Blair.

‘Mridula’ is the third of seven 500-Ton fuel barges being inducted by the Navy in various naval stations and is the first vessel to be stationed at Port Blair.

During the induction ceremony, Rear Admiral Sudhir Pillai, emphasised on the need for adequate skill development among the workforce to be able to handle the new technology equipment installed onboard new vessels.  The Admiral also brought out the significance of marine wealth of the Islands and emphasised the need to keep the harbours pollution free so as to preserve the marine ecology of  pristine Islands.
