Help!! I’m being cheated. The meat industry, the pesticide polluters, the hunters and the factories have combined to make so many wondrous creatures die out – even before I could feast my eyes on them.

I have known Merritt Clifton for many years now. He, his wife Beth, and son Wolf are completely devoted to animals, and run an emagazine called ANIMALS 24-7 which you should all read.

One of their board members, Vicky Crosetti who died recently, was a nationally recognized expert in the phenomenon of hoarding. She had written an article on how to deal with this and I will quote liberally from her experience, because we have to deal with this on a regular basis and each case breaks my heart.

Many years ago I spoke to the Mercedes people in India and told them to stop using leather for their car seats. They didn’t ban it, but they made it optional. Now, the responsibility is on the buyers.

Some weeks ago, I made a WhatsApp group for just my People for Animals unit heads. There are about 200 of them on the group. It was the best thing to do because now I see their work every day and each one of them is a blessing to India. They rescue the most wounded, terrified creatures. Animals that have huge cancerous growth on their horns, legs run over by cars, heads and throats eaten by maggots. PFA teams pick them up fearlessly, climb trees and go down wells, go into collapsed buildings to pick up cages of lovebirds and into swamps to rescue stranded cattle. I am full of admiration for these selfless amazing heroes.

A month ago I received distress calls from people in Mumbai that the municipal commissioner had suddenly swooped down on a 20 year old feeding platform (chabutra) for pigeons, which was on the side of the road in Khar, had covered it with plastic sheets and posted police people so that no one could feed the birds. The pigeons left inside died of starvation as they were not allowed out. The pigeons outside, who had been fed for years, had nowhere else to go so they stayed on the road waiting to be fed. Hundreds were run over by cars. Anyone who tried to feed them was made to sit in a police station. In the meantime the municipal commissioner had several completely untrue articles published in the local papers about how dangerous pigeons are to human health.
