Port Blair, Feb. 25: The Department of Home Science, JNRM in collaboration with NABARD, Port Blair is organizing two days workshop on “Financial Literacy for Women Students”. The workshop was inaugurated today by Smt Rina Ray, IAS, Principal Secretary (Higher Education), A & N Administration.

Speaking to the participants of the workshop, Chief Guest, Smt Reena Ray said, women need to have knowledge of financial matters as their role is no longer confined to household affairs.  She also stressed on banks to be more user friendly.

Addressing the workshop, Guest of Honour, Mr. G. Ananda Krishnan, DGM, NABARD congratulated efforts taken by JNRM in organizing workshop of this kind.  He said that there is an urgent need to include ‘Financial Literacy” as a part of School Curriculum as many educated people are not aware of basic financial transactions.

Earlier welcoming the gathering Principal, JNRM, Dr Iqbal Ahmad in his address said that even after 6 decades of independence, Indian society is still male dominated and this could be overcome only when women become financially independent and aware of various financial aspects.  He also advised participants to disseminate the knowledge they gain from the workshop to their kith and kin and people of their areas.

Shri K Venkatesan, HOD, Home Science, explained the significance of financial literacy for women in nation building.

The programme was coordinated by Smt Nidhi Shekhawat, Assistant Professor in Home Science while Smt Nidhi Katiyar, Assistant Professor, Department Home Science, proposed vote of thanks.
