Port Blair, March 8: Under the National Programme for Control of Blindness, ‘World Glaucoma Day’ will be observed on 12^th March 2013 to create awareness amongst the public about the prevention and control of Glaucoma and to emphasise the need for more initiatives with regard to Glaucoma. This year globally globally ‘World Glaucoma Week’ will be observed from 10^th to 16^th March 2013.

In order to celebrate the day/ week in a befitting manner and to observe ‘Glaucoma detection and control/prevention week from 10^th to 16^th March, NPCB, A&N Islands will organise various IEC activities throughout the islands to create awareness about the disease.

A Glaucoma screening cum awareness programme will be held on 12^th March 2013 from 9.00 am at Panchayat Hall, Guptapara in association with Gram Panchayat, Guptapara. A team of Ophthalmic Assistants headed by Dr. Mrs. Anita Shah, Ophthalmologist, Eye Department, G.B. Pant Hospital will be screening the general public above the age of 40 years.

All the needy eye patients have been advised to avail the opportunity by attending the screening cum awareness programme to be held at Panchayat Hall, Guptapara on 12^th March 2013.
