Port Blair, April 24: For almost three years, the Police Entertainment Team (PET) of A&N Police has been organising several musical programmes across the Island Territory. It is estimated that the PET was able to reach atleast a 100,000 islanders right from Port Blair city to the remotest parts of the island. With the formation of PET, the A&N Police was able to successfully bridge the gap between the general public & police and wipe out the age old notion that police is only to nab culprits.

With several performances across the islands including Diglipur, Kalighat, Mayabunder, Billiground, Bakultala, Rangat, Kadamtala, Baratang, Car Nicobar, Nancowry and Campbell Bay, the demand for PET seems to have increased. Appreciation letters were sent to the Police Headquarters from various organisations, political parties and also the Tribal Council. In one such letter to the Director General of Police, the President of Yuva Congress, Shri John Robert mentions that the Police Entertainment Team has full potential to give such entertainment through its performing artists. It has already staged many programmes which was applauded by the local audience of various islands. Since Summer vacations have started, a request was placed before the DGP to send the team across the islands, as was done earlier.

Meanwhile, the Tribal Council of Car Nicobar has also placed a request to send the PET to their Island. In a letter to the Inspector General of Police, the Secretary, Tribal Council appreciating the police department for its various activities, for the upliftment and moral support to the Tribal community said that one of the main attraction to the youth was conduction of entertainment programmes by the Police Department during the year 2011-2012. The Secretary also mentioned the need for such programmes especially when Summer Vacations have begun.

More such letters of appreciation and demand for PET seems to be pouring in from various corners. It can be expected that the A&N Police while proving to be one of the finest police force in the country, would also consider the demand of the general public by sending the PET to various places, especially the remote areas, which lack entertainment facilities.
