ICAR-CIARI Conducts Training Programme on “Sustainable Livelihood Through Livestock Farming”

Port Blair, May 22: A three day training on “Sustainable livelihood through livestock farming” was organized at Small Lapathy, Car Nicobar from 15th to 17th May, 2019 by Animal Science Division, ICAR-CIARI in collaboration with KVK, Car Nicobar under Schedule Tribe Component (STC/TSP). A total of 50 farmers including 19 farm women participated in this programme. Mr. K. Marcus, 2ndHeadman of Small Lapathy village, Car Nicobar was the Chief guest. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Arun Kumar De and Dr. K. Muniswamy of Animal Science Division and Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh of KVK, Car Nicobar, ICAR-CIARI. Smt Monica, a Nicobari staff assisted in conducting the programme.

During the training, Dr. A. K. De highlighted the importance of livestock farming particularly pig, goat and poultry for sustainable livelihood and urged the farmers to continue rearing livestock. He explained about the management and prevention of zoonotic diseases, general management and feeding of Pigs and reproductive management of livestock. Dr. K. Muniswamy explained about general management, brooding, feeding and watering in poultry, importance of deworming in livestock and biosecurity measures in livestock farming. Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh explained about integrated farming system and highlighted the importance of the training. Farmers were taken to visit KVK adopted farmer’s field for integrated farming and State Government livestock farm at Arong, Car Nicobar to show them about scientific rearing. 

At the end, the 2ndHeadman of Small Lapathy village, Car Nicobar translated about the importance of training into their local language to the farmers. Mineral mixtures, health tonics, herbal sprays and ointments were distributed to the needy farmers and explained about its usage for improved growth and health of livestock. The farmers expressed their happiness for the informative lectures. The overall programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr. A. Kundu, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.

8th Indo – Myanmar CORPAT Begins

Port Blair, May 22: The opening ceremony of the 8th Indo – Myanmar coordinated patrol (IMCOR) was conducted yesterday at HQ Naval Component, Port Blair.  The event was jointly chaired by Commodore Ashutosh Ridhorkar, Vishisht Seva Medal, Naval Component Commander, Andaman and Nicobar Command and Cmde Htein Win, Commander, Ayeyarwady Naval Command Senior Officer for Myanmar Navy.

Control Room at ECI

Port Blair, May 22: A 24-hour EVM Control Room has been made functional at Nirvachan Sadan to monitor complaints relating to polled EVMs. The complaints related to storage issues at strong rooms, security of strong rooms, permissions to candidates to post their agents at strong rooms, CCTV monitoring, movement of any EVMs, and any complaints during counting related to EVMs can be informed at the Control Room number is 011-23052123 (with 5 hunting lines).
