Port Blair, Sept. 9: Shri Yashpal Garg, MD, ANIIDCO and Secretary (Tourism) flagged off a Cycle Tour to Andaman on 8th September 2018 from Cellular Jail.  The Cycle tour is being organized by ANIIDCO in association with the Tourism Department and Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ACCI). As many as 15 riders from mainland and Andaman are participating in the event.

The cycle tour involves riding around  50 Kms from Port Blair to  Jirkatang on the  1st day,  56 Kms. from Baratang  to Yeratta Jetty excluding  Jarawa  reserve on the 2nd day  and  on the 3rd day the group would trek to Lalaji Bay, Long Island.

Cycling through country side is an alternative way to see the beautiful landscape and connect with the local people and the place. Cycling tourism is a growing concept and with many popular cycling tours of Western Ghat, Goa and Rajasthan. Cycling tour is a good means to combine leisure, physical activity and sightseeing in an eco friendly way. Andaman has potential for development of Cycling tourism as a product considering its tropical lush green rainforest and beautiful beaches. It will be an endeavour to make the cycling tour an annual event at larger scale.

The Cycling group will also be interacting with school children and PRI of Long Island during the tour.
