PP Kits, Masks Procured, 2 New Ventilators Installed in GB Pant Hospital, 2 New Ambulances to be Ready by March 31

Port Blair, March 28: In the wake of increasing spread of the Corona Virus Disease, the Department of Disaster Management has now been made the Nodal Department for COVID-19 related procurement in the A&N Islands. The Department is taking all the possible steps to procure COVID-19 related medical equipment, considering the nationwide lockdown and acute shortage of such equipment and supplies. As a result 200 Personal Protection Kits, which are used by the medical professionals, have reached Andaman Bhawan, Chennai today and another 2000 will be delivered by March 31, 2020.

Besides this, supplies like 2 lakh 3-ply masks used by frontline staffs and disinfectants for quarantined homes and medical facilities like 10,000 kgs bleaching powder, 3750 lts of Sodium Hypochlorite solution, 50,000 bottles of hand sanitizers have been procured from OIDC, an undertaking of Daman & Diu Administration and will reach Chennai by 30th March. These will be air lifted from Chennai along with the Personal Protection Kits. Two lakh numbers of 3-ply masks and 5,000 N-95 masks have been delivered at Hindon Airbase, Gaziabad, which will soon be airlifted with the help of Andaman Nicobar Command.

300 Corona Testing Kits are expected to reach Delhi by Wednesday from an ICMR accredited facility. Besides these, 2 new ventilators have already been installed in GB Pant Hospital and 2 new ambulances are also expected to be ready by March 31, 2020. 

Besides these, regular supply of all essential medicines including non-COVID related is being ensured. The Department is reaching out to various Ministries, Govt. Undertaking and suppliers to meet the requirement of the Islands.
