Port Blair, Apr 22: The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs will conduct Triathlon, an adventure sports for men at Port Blair on April 26, 2014. Triathlon is an interesting multiple-state competition involving three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines. While many variations of the sports exist, triathlon, in its most popular form, involves swimming, cycling and running in immediate succession over various distances.

The participants will be have report at the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex at 5.30 pm on Apr 26 while the event will begin at 7 am at Ross Island Jetty. The route for swimming will be from Ross Island to Aberdeen Jetty. The cycling will begin from Aberdeen Jetty and will pass through Fisheries Cold Storage, Narayan Junction, Clock Tower, Model School and Raj Niwas upto Gandhi Park. The running will commence from Gandhi Park and pass through RGT road, RK Mission, Girls’ School, Marina Park main road and enter the first gate of Netaji Stadium and finish at the main dias of the Stadium.  The three winners will be awarded with cash prize of Rs. 30,000/-, Rs.25,000/- and Rs.15,000/-. All the participants successfully complete the events will be awarded Rs.1000/- with certificate.

The last date for receiving entries is April 24 (3 pm) at the Swimming Pool. A briefing session for all participants & officials and submission of Indemnity Bond by all participants, allotment of chest number will be held at 5 pm at the Swimming Pool on April 24 itself. This will be followed by a swimming test for all participants.

A medical check up for participants above 40 years of age will be organized at GB Pant Hospital from 9 to 11 am on April 25.

No entries will be accepted without the Indemnity Bond. Participants will not be permitted to participate if found to be medically unfit for fails in the swimming test. The participants shall turn up in proper kit and will have to bring their own cycles for the competition.
