Port Blair, July 28: Education Department has released the pending fund of Rs. 305000/- towards school stationary kit for the year 2013-14 for South Point School. The fund has been provided to the concerned DDO, Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School for crediting to the account of beneficiary students.

The parents of the students studying in the South Point School had earlier approached the Chairperson, A & N UT Commission for protection of child rights with the complaint that the amount towards the cost for purchase of stationary items and stitching charges of uniforms for the year 2013-14 for some of the eligible beneficiary students has not been credited to their accounts even after the lapse of two years. The matter was immediately taken up by the Chairperson, UTCPCR with the concerned DDO and it was learnt that the fund for the year 2013-14 was not received from Education Department and hence the payment could not be done. The matter was then taken up by the Commission with the Secretary (Education), A & N Administration vide letter dated 14.07.2015 and finally the pending amount of Rs. 305000/- was released and transferred by Education Department to the DDO on 17.07.2015 for onward payment to the beneficiaries. 

Appreciating the immediate intervention of Secretary (Education), the Commission has requested the Secretary (Education) and Director (Education) to ensure the timely release of fund for school stationary kit to different schools to facilitate the needy and eligible students to continue their education without any hindrance.
