AH&VS advises poultry farmers

Port Blair, Oct. 10: The local poultry farmers including commercial poultry farmers are informed that the poultry litter materials, offals, dead birds etc. are being disposed of in very un-hygienic manner leading to several complaints from the local residents of the area including PRls. Although the department of AH&VS has been circulating necessary instructions to follow bio-security measures in their respective poultry farms, it is understood that a few farmers have not been following these measures strictly as directed by the department. The department is keeping a strict vigil on the incidents of any infectious emerging or exotic poultry diseases in the islands as per the guidelines issued from Govt. of India from time to time. It is requested that all the precautionary measures should be followed as per the guidelines issued by the department. The departmental Senior Veterinary Officers and Para Veterinary Staff of the concerned area will be making frequent visits to villages as well as private poultry farms to check the bio-security measures taken up in their farms. Any un-usual mortality among the poultry birds in their farms or localities should be immediately brought to the notice of nearest Senior Veterinary Officers/Para Veterinary Staff. All the local poultry farmers are requested to co-operate in this regard so that any un-usual incidents of disease among poultry birds could be checked in time and necessary preventive measures could be taken up immediately by the Department.
