Port Blair, Feb 11: To prevent electoral fraud, Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) was introduced by the Election Commission of India in the year 1993 and with passage of time and in view of major advances of technology; the Commission has decided that the quality of cards, security features and other specifications shall be further improved.

In this line, as per the ECI’s instruction new security featured EPIC was introduced in A&N Islands since last Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Roll - 2023. The new features like in card size, thickness, hologram, Micro text, Ghost image, Guilloche patter, QR code etc. are enhanced in new EPIC cards.

Port Blair, Feb 11: A clean-up drive was conducted by Gram Panchayat Sippighat, in coordination with Community Development Block, Prothrapur and Samiti Prothrapur for behavioural change among the masses to adopt better sanitation and hygiene practices at Tri junction, Bimblitan village, Sippighat Gram Panchayat yesterday. During the drive, the Block Development Officer, CD Block Prothrapur urged the households and villagers to keep their surrounding green and clean and adopt batter sanitation and hygiene practices.

Port Blair, Feb 11: The State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) under the State Child Protection Society is promoting legal adoption and providing assistance to those seeking to adopt. Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare), emphasized on the importance of legal adoption and highlighted the procedures involve in the adoption process. He informed that adoption is a legal procedure that provides children with a permanent and loving family environment. It is essential to go through the proper channels and ensure that the adoption is conducted in a legal and ethical manner. SARA helps facilitate this process by providing support and guidance to prospective adoptive parents.

Port Blair, Feb 11: The District Administration, through its District Health Society, South Andaman in coordination with the Health Department, organized a two-day training on Leprosy Eradication recently at AYUSH Hospital, Junglighat.

The training was inaugurated by Dr. Suja Anthony, Director of Health Services alongwith Dr. Sunil Kumar, Deputy Director (Health Education) and Dr. B. Ajit Kumar, Deputy Director (Leprosy).

Port Blair, Feb 11: The 12-day Tourist Guide Training Programme scheduled to be organized by the Tourism Department in association with Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), Bhubaneswar from 19th February, 2024 has been rescheduled due to administrative reasons. It will now be held from 26th February to 8th March 2024, including weekends.
