Port Blair, Oct. 11: A MoE approved, One Day District Level Awareness and Sensitization Workshop on Safe and Secure Transport Facilities for School Children was organized by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights at the TGCE Auditorium, Port Blair for the South Andaman District. The workshop was organised in coordination with the Department of education, A&N Islands.

In her key note address, Mrs Rubina Siddiqui, Resource Person and Co-ordinator, NCPCR spoke briefly about the purpose of the workshop which was to create an understanding amongst all the stakeholders/ participants of the workshop including school authorities, SMC members, personnel from the traffic and transport department on the need for co creating a safe and secure environment to & from schools. She discussed in detail about the guidelines set by the Hon’ble Supreme court as well as directions issued by the NCPCR with regards to safe and secure school transport.

Shri B.Binoy, Deputy Director, Directorate of Transport spoke elaborately on Road Safety while sessions on Field Experiencing in Trafficking in South Andaman and Roles and Responsibilities of School Heads and Teachers was conducted by ASI, Shri Tamil Selvam from A&N Traffic police and Shri Joshi Phillip from the State Institute of Education.

The workshop was inaugurated by SP South Andaman District, Shri Kalaivanan R, IPS who emphasized on the need to be aware of the various safety requirements in the school bus. He exalted the gathering to have a zero tolerance policy against any negligence on part of any individual or management when it comes to student safety and assured the stakeholders of prompt action by the Traffic Police in case of any complaints

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Sethukarrai, Nodal Officer from Education Department.
