Inspects Facilities, Interacts with Officials and Public

Kamorta, Feb 8: The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS currently on tour to Southern Group of Islands, visited Govt. establishments at Chowra Island this morning. He was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobars, Shri Yash Chaudhary, IAS, SP District Nicobars, Shri Manjeet, IPS, Senior Officers of line Departments and others. The Chief Secretary visited Govt. Secondary School and interacted with the students and teachers. He advised the teachers to conduct extra classes for the students of Class X to prepare them for CBSE exam. Thereafter, he inspected Power House and urged the concerned authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply 24x7 and directed APWD to undertake immediate repair of the entire Power House building. He visited the Health and Wellness Centre of Health Department and interacted with the paramedical staff and enquired about the facilities available in the Centre. The Chief Secretary also advised the Health Department to connect all HWCs in A&N Islands through e-Sanjeevani.

The Chief Secretary also inspected the Rain Water Harvesting sites in Chowra Island and held meeting with the Tribal Representatives in the APWD Guest House and discussed various issues pertaining to the area. On the request made by Tribal Representatives to provide 5000 ltr. capacity water tanks in all permanent shelters to store rain water, the Chief Secretary directed the Deputy Commissioner (Nicobars) to provide water tanks of adequate capacity under the Integrated Tribal Development Programme.

Thereafter, the Chief Secretary proceeded to Katchal Island and visited the Primary Health Centre and interacted with the doctors, paramedical staff and enquired about the functioning of the PHC and the facilities available there. He interacted with the patients and enquired about their wellbeing and also inspected the Pharmacy Counter of the PHC and enquired about the availability of medicines. He also appreciated the Doctors and the entire medical team for the excellent upkeep of the hospital. Thereafter, the Chief Secretary visited GSSS Kapanga and was impressed with the way the school is being managed. Here too, the Chief Secretary stressed on the need to conduct extra classes for the students of Class X & XII appearing for CBSE exam. He directed APWD to undertake immediate repair of staff quarters and school building. The Chief Secretary also visited the Anganwadi Centre. Thereafter, the Chief Secretary visited Water Treatment Plant and directed the APWD officials to provide water supply on a daily basis by enhancing the pumping capacity or by any other engineering solutions as required. The Chief Secretary also held meeting with the Public Representatives and patiently listened to their grievances and assured them of fulfilling all their genuine grievances. He also visited Katchal Settler Habitations and interacted with the Sri Lankan settlers there and advised them to come out with a viable solution for their early resettlement.

Later in the afternoon, the Chief Secretary proceeded to Kamorta Island and inspected the Community Health Centre there. He also interacted with the doctors, paramedical staff and enquired about the functioning of the CHC and the facilities available. He interacted with the patients and enquired about their health and also inspected the medicine counter. The Chief Secretary also flagged off three new ambulances equipped with basic life support system, one each meant for Kamorta, Katchal and Teressa Islands. He appreciated the well maintained ambience of the CHC and advised the Health Department to replace the defunct Anaesthetic Machine to make the Operation Theatre functional. He also directed APWD to take up the repair works of the CHC, wherever necessary and also give a facelift to the entire Medical complex. Thereafter, the Chief Secretary visited the main water reservoir of Kamorta Island and directed the APWD to raise the height of the reservoir, to enhance the storage capacity to address water scarcity issue during dry season. He also visited Power House and interacted with the Engineering and supporting staff. Thereafter, the Chief Secretary held meeting with the Public Representatives at EOC Kamorta and gave a patient hearing to their grievances. He also urged the concerned officials to redress the grievances of the residents of the area on priority basis.

Tomorrow (Feb.9), the Chief Secretary will visit Munak Island and proceed to Campbell Bay. At Campbell Bay, he will visit School, AWC, Power House etc. He will also inspect road construction work upto Indira Point and sites in connection with Great Nicobar Island Project.
