Urges GoI to fill up all vacant posts of Administration with Candidates from A&N Islands

Port Blair, Feb 12: Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has raised a strong voice in support of the Daily Rated and Casual Workers of the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC).

In his speech in Lok Sabha on Friday, the Member of Parliament highlighted the dire financial conditions and poor working conditions of the 902 Daily Rated and Casual Workers of Port Blair Municipal Council, who have been employed by the PBMC for the past 10 to 15 years.

He demanded that the Government of India take a one-time measure to regularize the services of all 902 workers and provide them with permanent jobs.

He pointed out that most of these employees have exceeded the age of government recruitment and their physical conditions have been affected due to their daily exposure to garbage.

He argued that these workers have no other means of employment and that regularizing their jobs would greatly benefit them and their families.

Dwelling upon another crucial issue in Lok Sabha, the Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma raised concerns about the lack of job opportunities for the local youth in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, as many posts in the administration are being filled by candidates from mainland India.

He stated that there are nearly 10,000 vacant posts in the administration and slowly these posts are being filled up but it has been observed that as these vacancy notices are published online, many mainland candidates apply for the job. Because of their better education and training they get the job, leaving local candidates deprived.

He added that this has led to high levels of unemployment among the youth of the Islands and has triggered an unrest among local youths.

The Member of Parliament requested the Government of India to fill up all these vacant posts with candidates from Andaman & Nicobar Islands only.
