Port Blair, March 6: Annoyed over the frequent and widespread power outages in A&N Islands, the Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee on Monday hit the streets criticising the administration for not providing round-the-clock electricity.

Led by ANTCC President Shri. Rangalal Halder and ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Shri. G Bhasker, the protest march started from Gandhi Bhawan with hundreds of peoples and reached the Electricity Department office at Mohanpura.

Expressing concern over the dwindling situation of electricity supply in the Islands, Shri. Halder demanded the Electricity Department to take all possible steps for providing 24X7 power to bail out businesses and common households from the crisis.

"The frequent power cuts has caused trouble for the students who are preparing for the Board exams as it occurs at odd times which makes it difficult for the students to concentrate in their studies", he added.

ANTCC Spokesperson Shri. Tamil Selvam demanded to fill up the vacant posts lying in the Electricity Department with 100% job reservation for the Islanders and also to maximise the unit production of all Solar Plants built in entire A&N Islands.

The Mahila Congress South Andaman Co-ordinator Smt. Zubaida Begum said that all Islanders should hold the hands of the Congress party so that Congress can succeed in resolving the burning issues of the Islanders being faced today.

Further, the Superintendent Engineer of Electricity department had a fruitful talk with the Congress leaders and he assured them that the problems of load shedding will be resolved within 10 days.
