Port Blair, March 6: Under Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), A&N Administration has made an appeal to the private practitioners of A&N Islands to volunteer themselves to provide free services and be part of the Jan Andolan. In A&N Islands, 10 doctors have already pledged to provide voluntary service under PMSMA from 9th March 2023.

PMSMA has been implemented in A&N Islands since 9th September, 2016. On 9th day of every month, all essential maternal health services will be provided at identified public health facilities. The PMSMA is aimed to reach out to all pregnant women who are in 2nd & 3rd trimester of pregnancy. PMSMA will help in providing quality ANC including complete set of investigations like such as HB, Urine Albumin, VDRL, OGTT including ultrasound for each pregnant woman. This would help in timely detection, referral, treatment and follow-up of high risk pregnancies.

In the year 2021-22, 3193 pregnant women were screened under PMSMA. To ensure that all pregnant women complete their scheduled Antenatal Care visit, in Govt. health institutions, pregnant women are examined by Obstetrics Specialist / Medical Officers on the 9th of every month.

A national portal and a mobile application for PMSMA have been developed to facilitate the engagement of doctors from private/ voluntary section. Obstetrics Specialist/ Radiologist/ Physicians working in the private sectors have been encouraged to volunteer for the campaign.
