Port Blair, March 7: An Open Sea Swimming Competition will be organized by Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, A&N Administration at Port Blair on March 18. For the smooth conduct of the event, a Co-ordination Meeting was held under the Chairmanship of the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Sports), Shri Nikhil Kumar, IAS in the conference hall of the Secretariat to discuss the modalities of the event.
Addressing the officials of all line Departments, the Commissioner –cum- Secretary informed that the much awaited Open Sea swimming competition will be held in between Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep and Aberdeen Jetty on March 18, 2023. He urged the representatives of all concerned Department to complete all the arrangements to make the event a grand success.
The Director (Education), Shri Aditya Kumar Jha informed that sea swimming competition is generally organized in the month of January to May and the last event was held in the year 2018. Due to Covid pandemic, the competition could not be conducted upto 2022.
The Competition will be conducted under various categories viz. Men’s Open (18 years to 50 years), Men’s Open (50 years to 60 years), Men’s Open (60 years to 70 years), Women’s Open (18 years and above), Above 12 to 18 years Boys and Above 12 to 18 years Girls.
The 1st position will be awarded cash award Rs. 50,000/- with trophy, 2nd position will be awarded cash award of Rs. 30,000/- with trophy and 2nd Runner-up will be awarded cash award Rs. 20,000/- with trophy. Further, those participants who have finished well in time will be awarded consolidated prize money of Rs. 1000/- .
Interested persons willing to participate may register their names in the Swimming competition. They have been asked to collect entry form & indemnity Bond from Office of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Netaji Stadium, Port Blair from March 8 to 13, 2023 between 9 am & 5 pm. The Medical check-up for the registered participants/swimmers for all categories will be held at DHS, Port Blair on March 13 & 14, 2023. The last date for submitting the entry form along with indemnity bond & medical fitness certificate is March 14, 2023 by 5 pm. The Swimming trial will be conducted on March15 from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Swimming Pool, Netaji Stadium, Port Blair. After the Swimming trial, the briefing session will be conducted by Dr. V. Selvam, Chief Referee at the Swimming Pool.
