Car Nicobar, March 7: To mark the occasion of International Women’s Day, 2023, various programmes were organized under the District Administration, Nicobar District. The celebrations were conducted in coordination with the Departments of Health, Education, Police, ICDS, Rural Development and Tribal Council.

A cycle rally was conducted with more than 80 lady participants. The Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar flagged off the cycle rally from the DC Office, which culminated at the beautiful Kinyuka beach.

Further, a Sale-cum-Exhibition was organized by the District Administration of Nicobar District under BBBP Scheme in co-ordination with ICDS and NRLM of Car Nicobar at Edward Kuchat Park, Car Nicobar for promoting and showcasing the products made by the self-Help-Group of Car Nicobar. 9 SHGs participated and made sales proceeds of Rs.54589/- in one day.

Simultaneously, sports activities such as tug of war, passing the ball, spoon race, sack race, Toich-Kuk (Coconut husk removing Competition) etc. were organized especially for women and girls at CWC Ground, Headquarter. The highlight of the sports event was the tug of war organized for women in which Kakana Village won the match by beating Tapoiming Village.

A valedictory function was organized in the evening at the Edward Kuchat Park, in which, Shri Hari Kallikkat, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District was the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, he emphasized on the significance of women’s role in constituting a preeminent family as well as a society. During the programme, women from various sectors such as Health, Education, and Community were felicitated in recognition of their excellent services to the community. The winners of various events organized for the celebration of International Women’s Day, 2023 were felicitated with prizes.

Shri Vikram Singh, Assistant Commissioner HQ, (Car Nicobar) and all heads of Department such as Education Officer, Block Development Officer, Child Development Project Officer also attended the function.

The program concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Nodal Officer (DCPO), BBBP, Nicobar.
