Highlights Crucial Issues of ANIIMS Students and Need for Specialists’ Visit in Remote Districts

Port Blair, March 10: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma today called on Shri. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Secretary Health, Andaman and Nicobar Administration and raised some crucial issues.

He requested the Health Secretary to deploy specialist doctors such as gynaecologists and paediatricians to all regions of North and Middle Andaman, as well as Nicobar District, on a monthly rotational basis.  He said that during his visit to North and Middle Andaman as well as Nicobar District, he met with the large number of people, who had raised this demand of sending specialist doctors in their areas.

He highlighted that this would greatly benefit the people of these areas and improve access to healthcare. The Health Secretary has assured the MP that steps will be taken to make this happen.

In addition, the Member of Parliament requested that the date of the specialist doctors' visits to remote islands be widely publicized so that all needy islanders can fix their appointments. The Health Secretary has also assured the MP that appropriate measures will be taken in this regard.

The Member of Parliament also raised the issue of the delay in releasing original certificates for students, who have cleared MBBS from ANIIMS. This delay has caused students to suffer, as many have to appear for PG courses in mainland India, while others need the original certificate to apply for passports or update their OBC Certificate. The Health Secretary has assured the Member of Parliament to look into the matter.

Furthermore, the Member of Parliament highlighted the issue of the security amount of Rs. 25,000 not being released by the ANIIMS. The Health Secretary has promised to look into the matter and take appropriate steps to resolve the issue.
