Port Blair, March 28: The Food Safety Department, A&N Administration is organizing a walkathon event on 1st April 2023. This event is aimed to create awareness among the general public about the benefits of millets. The year 2023 is declared as the international year of millets by the United Nation General Assembly. Millets are small seeded grains cultivated worldwide and they are rich in protein, carbohydrates, dietary fibers, calcium and other minerals. 

The walkathon will be flagged off on 1st April at 7 am from the National Memorial Cellular Jail and will culminate at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Stadium covering vantage points of the city. The route map of the walkathon event is National Memorial Cellular Jail, Clock Tower, Head Post Office, IP&T Junction, Fire Brigade Office, Vikash Bhavan and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Stadium.

The Commissioner, Food Safety/Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman District has requested the general public, students, FBOs and tourists to participate in the event for creating mass awareness on consumption of millets and to make the event a grand success.
