Port Blair, April 3: The 36th convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was held today at Lecture Gallery, Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM), Port Blair.  The main function was held at IGNOU, HQs at 11.00 AM wherein the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu was the Chief Guest and Hon’ble Minister of Education, Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan was the Guest of Honour.

At Port Blair Regional Centre, the Guest of Honour was Shri. Neeraj Thakur, IPS, DGP, A&N Islands. In his speech the Guest of Honour highlighted the importance of the Convocation and also highlighted the online education. He also appreciated the efforts of the students who have secured degrees for 36th convocation. The Guest of Honour congratulated all the passed out graduates and wished them luck for the future.

Altogether 60 candidates have received degrees from the Guest of Honour. Earlier during the welcome address, the Regional Director Dr. RVR Murthy briefed the gathering about the achievements of IGNOU Regional centre Port Blair in the last one year and also proposed the future plan for expanding the IGNOU academic activities in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The program was attended by the invited guest, officials from A&N Police and academic staff from various Institutions and parents. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. J. Gowtham, Assistant Coordinator of IGNOU Study Centre, JNRM.
