Port Blair, July 5: The Tourism Department in association with all line Departments of the A&N Administration will be organizing the first fest of this season, the ‘Monsoon Tourism Festival-2023’ on July 15 &16, 2023 at Corbyn's Cove Beach, Port Blair from 4 pm   to   9 pm.   The   event   would   include   Rain Dance Competition and Rain Photography Competition.

A Rain Dance Competition is an event where participants showcase their dancing skills while performing rain dances. Rain dances are traditionally associated with various cultures and have been performed for centuries as a way to invoke rain or celebrate its arrival. These dances often incorporate rhythmic movements, chants, and rituals that symbolize the connection between human beings and the natural world. In rain dance competition, participants will be judged based on their creativity, choreography, synchronization, costumes, and overall performance. The aim is to entertain the audience and demonstrate the beauty and significance of rain dances. Depending on the specific rules and format of the competition, participants may perform individually, in pairs, or as groups. They may incorporate traditional elements of rain dances from their respective cultures or create contemporary interpretations. Live music, drumming, or recorded soundtracks that enhance the atmosphere and energy of the performance can accompany the dances.

A Rain Photography Competition is an event inviting photographers to submit their best photographs that capture rain-related scenes, whether it is rain falling, raindrops on objects, reflections, or the overall mood and ambiance that rain creates. The competition may focus on various aspects, such as composition, lighting, creativity, storytelling, and technical skill. Rain photography competitions not only celebrate the artistry and technical skills of photographers but also promote an appreciation for the beauty of rain and its impact on the environment.

Participants have been requested to submit their photographs in digital format, adhering to specific guidelines set by the Department. The entries may be evaluated by a panel of judges for both the competitions. The judges will assess the entries based on their artistic merit, technical excellence, originality, and how effectively they convey the theme of rain.    The competitions are open to photographers of all levels, from amateurs to professionals.

The Rain Photography Competition and Rain Dance Competition are open for all and entry is free, no age bar. The best 3 entries will be suitably awarded with cash prize in both the competitions.

The candidate has to submit a declaration that the photograph submitted by him/her is original photograph shot by him/her. The photographs should be good quality with High resolution, which will look attractive in Facebook/Instagram. The response/contents received from participants will be uploaded in the social media accounts like Facebook/Instagram by the Directorate of IP &T on 18th July, 2023. Thereafter, the best may be selected on the basis of number of likes and subsequently judged by a panel of judges of the department. The Department may use the submitted photographs & posters for any useful purpose if found suitable and once submitted, the copyright of the submitted material shall belong to the Department.

Apart from dance performance by highly talented local groups and live musical performance on stage by local band of these Islands, food stalls would be an added attraction for tourists to taste the local flavour of Islands. Stalls will be allotted on free of cost. There are limited numbers of food stalls (approx 10 Nos), which may be allotted to Hoteliers/restaurant owners, registered SHGs on first come first serve basis. The major criteria for selection of applicants would be based on quality of items intend to sale/ exhibit food items, cuisines matching with the theme etc. The final selection will be done by the committee.
