Port Blair, March 22: The North & Middle Andaman District Police took the innovative “Mahila Manch”, to its next level with the goal of empowering women living in the remote villages of the district. This time the initiative brings together women from Burma Dera, Karmatang and Webi villages of the district. It was a wonderful opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the unique culture and traditions of Karen community.

Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP (D)N&MA, engaged in an inspiring interaction with women of Karen community from Mayabunder area. The interaction focussed on issues such as crimes against women and domestic violence affecting women and children. She enlightened them on legal provisions that can be utilized to combat these issues. She encouraged the women to stand up with courage for a better future of young girls for a brighter nation.

Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, emphasised the importance of girl’s education which plays a crucial role in nation-building. By equipping young girls with education, it ensures the brighter future of all members of society. She also informed the women about 3 New Laws and Special Acts, which empowers them to fight against the exploitation of girl children. She encouraged them to stand strong against the negative elements in society.

During the event, SP N&MA emphasized the importance of self-reliance and encouraged women to break free from dependency and strive towards self-sufficiency. This message resonated with the audience, empowering them to take control of their own financial futures.

The "Mahila Manch" drew participation from women across the Mayabunder region, serving as a testament to its relevance and impact on the lives of rural women. Through collective empowerment and education, the North & Middle Andaman District Police aims to uplift communities and foster a culture of gender equality and self-reliance.
