Port Blair, March 24: The District Health Society, South Andaman under National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme observed the World TB Day today in the Auditorium of Govt. Tagore Collage, Port Blair with the theme ‘Yes, We Can End TB’ in coordination with the Directorate of Health Services. Dr. P. Lal, State TB Officer/ District TB Officer, South Andaman and Shri B. Nagendra, District Programme Manager, DHS (SA) were present on the occasion. Cultural activities on TB awareness were also organized.

The District TB Officer (SA) informed the gathering about Tuberculosis and its prevention initiatives which is being carried out by the Administration to eliminate Tuberculosis from the Islands. Further, he launched the TB awareness video clip followed by awareness song launched by the District Programme Manager to create awareness in the community level for early screening of the suspects, regular medication etc.

Meanwhile, an awareness campaign has started throughout the South Andaman District, a week ahead of World TB Day under the supervision of Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS Deputy Commissioner (SA) / Chairman, District Health Society such as, TB awareness jerseys wore by District Administration Cricket Team, Walkathon Rallies, Quiz competitions, displaying of poster on Autorikshaws, screening of healthcare providers and suspect of Tuberculosis, which concluded with the observance of World TB Day today.

Further, individuals, volunteers, NGO who have supported the District TB team for TB awareness video clip, audio clip and active participation in the awareness activities were given mementos and certificates during the event. Earlier, Ms. Sini, District Programme Coordinator welcomed the gathering and the event concluded by the vote of thanks by District Programme Manager.
