Today even a child does know what Quarantine is. He will certainly explain that quarantine means a restriction on the movement of people which is intended to prevent the spread of disease; but many people really need to sense it truly under the crux of the pandemic situation of Covid19. The History being informative and instructive always shows us its footprints to follow.

I remember before the lockdown taking a long drive with a friend of mine to check out a problem with a trust in which we were both trustees. I enjoyed the drive and the comfortable car he took me in. He wasn't driving, his driver was, and when we got stuck in a traffic jam, I saw him becoming impatient.

"Maybe this jam gives us time to catch up with each other?"

Monsoon weather isn’t the most cheerful weather! It certainly isn’t, and persistent rain, along with rumbling thunder adds to a feeling of impending doom. My daughter who studied in Seattle told me even there, skies are overcast most of the time, and it is one place where psychiatrists and psychologists have flourishing practices because many tend to fall into a state of depression.

One of the saddest sights seen is when a husband or wife dies and leaves behind a partner. You can literally see the one left behind asking silently, “Why did you leave me here? What will I do alone?” And though the question is silently asked, it’s one that is asked by all. The other day I rang a widow, who had asked me for help in getting her daughter married, “How are you Kamala?” I asked.

The mother of the little boy was intrigued. Her shy son, who liked more than anything else the company of only himself, had suddenly got attached to his grandfather. “He just loves going out with him!” she told her husband.

“Maybe he buys him candy, and eats some himself!” chuckled her husband, and they both smiled knowing her father was diabetic, and that could be a possibility.
